Please read all the terms and conditions carefully before applying to become a runner, making a donation, or using the services of this website. By using this webpage service, you represent that you have read, understood and agree to abide by the terms and conditions of these terms and conditions. (For definitions, see “Definitions” of this Terms and Conditions page.)

Definitions

  • Unless otherwise stated, the following definitions shall apply to these Membership Terms and Conditions.
  • "These Terms and Conditions" means this “Run For Girls 2024” Event Terms and Conditions.
  • "PLAN" means PLAN International (Hong Kong).
  • "SCMP" means individually and collectively South China Morning Post Publishers Limited and/or its ultimate holding company(ies), holding company(ies), subsidiaries, affiliates and subsidiaries of each of such ultimate holding company(ies) and holding company(ies).
  • "Organizer" refers to the South China Morning Post and PLAN International (Hong Kong).
  • "Hong Kong" and “HKSAR” means the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.
  • "Site" means https://campaigns.cosmopolitan.com.hk/2024/runforgirls/ .
  • "Services" means the enrollment service for Run For Girls 2024.
  • “Adult” or “Adults” means anyone who is 18 years old or above during registration on the site.
  • “Child” or “Children” means anyone who is in the range of 3 - 17 years old during registration on the site.

    1. Public Run
      1. Female 10.11km Individual Run
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: One adult;
      2. Female 3km Individual Run
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: One adult;
      3. Female Besties 3km Group Run
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: 2-4 adults per group;
      4. Tertiary Student 3km Group Run
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: 2-4 tertiary students aged 18 – 23 per group;
      5. Male 10.11km Individual Run
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: One adult;
    2. Family Run
      1. Family 1km Fun Run
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: Minimum 1 adult and 1 child as a group; Maximum 2 adults plus 10 children as a group;
    3. Corporate Run
      1. Corporate Cup 3km
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: Each company can only have 1 group joining with a minimum of 3 adults and no upper limits.
      2. Corporate Female 10.11km Individual Run
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: One adult;
      3. Corporate Male 10.11km Individual Run
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: One adult;
      4. Corporate Family 1km Fun Run
        1. No. of participants & age limitation: Minimum 1 adult and 1 child as a group; Maximum 2 adults plus 10 children as a group;
  2. Enrollment
    1. Runner's qualification
      1. It is the sole responsibility of an applicant to ensure that payment of the registration fee is made through the official payment channel designated by the Organizers before the payment deadline. No reminder for payment will be made to any applicant. No request for extension of time for payment or change of payment method will be entertained. Applicants who fail to pay the registration fee before the payment deadline will be deemed to have withdrawn the registrations and such registrations will no longer be processed. Save as provided below, registration fee, once submitted, is non-reversible and non-refundable. No registration shall be considered as completed until the appropriate registration fee has been received by the Organizers.
      2. For registration of Tertiary Student Run, it is mandatory for one team member to upload their student ID to the registration website, and all team members must present their student IDs when collecting their runners' pack.
    2. Enrollment Fee
      1. Adult Enrollment fee is HK$350/person.
      2. Children/Student Enrollment fee is HK$280/person.
    3. Repeat Enrollment
      1. Each participant can only apply under one category only. If there is any violation of regulations, the Organizer reserves the right to cancel the enrollment and qualifications without further notice, and no registration fees will be refunded and no runner's pack nor goodie bag will be distributed to the person in question.
  3. Competition Rules and Regulations
    1. Competition Regulations
      1. Each person's registration for the Event (“Registration”), the bibs, and the timing chips are non-transferable and cannot be shared. Violation will result in disqualification and registration fees will not be refunded.
      2. A Registration is personal to the applicant and each applicants is strictly prohibited from swapping, selling, auctioning, transferring or offering to swap, sell, auction or transfer his/her successful registration or his/her place in the Event or allow or permit any other person to wear his/her bib with the number allocated to him/her. Any breach of this rule shall render the registration void and both the guilty applicant and the substituted participant shall be subject to disciplinary action by the Organizers including exclusion from participation in future races organised by the Organizers.
      3. Runners who do not wear the valid bib at the Run For Girls 2024 Event are not allowed to enter the race course. Any individuals found in violation of this rule will be asked to leave the course immediately.
      4. Participants will be disqualified if they do not start the race as per the designated race categories and start time assigned by the Organizers. No result and certificate will be issued to the disqualified participants.
    2. En-Route Rules
      1. No pets or any form of wheel-run objects of transport, e.g. wheelchairs, bicycles, skates, trolleys, shoes with built-in or attached rollers, etc, are allowed on the course.
      2. The possession or use of dangerous goods, including offensive weapons, flammable or explosive agents, or any materials/objects that may obstruct other participants, is strictly prohibited. Any individuals found in violation of this rule will be asked to leave the course immediately, and such cases may be reported to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
      3. Participants must not use any external auxiliary equipment in the race (except prosthetic limb(s)).
      4. Participants must retire and leave the race course immediately if requested to do so by any member of the race officials, medical staff, race director, referees or security staff.
      5. Organisers reserve the right to disqualify any participant who has proven to have received assistance during the race.
    3. General Rules
      1. Participants are strictly prohibited from engaging in or attempting any activities that violate the laws of the HKSAR and the National Security Law governing HKSAR, at any given time or within any venue or area associated with the event.
      2. Participants are strictly prohibited from engaging in or attempting any form of demonstration, political, religious, or racial propaganda at any time during the event or within any venue or area related to the event.
  4. Participants Physical Conditions
    1. Participants should be aware of and understand the risks involved in taking part in the Event, and acknowledge the degree of fitness required to take part therein.
    2. Any person who is pregnant or suffering from any chronic disease such as heart disease or high blood pressure should not participate in the Event. The Organizers reserves the right to disallow/disqualify any person who is known to have the above condition. The Organizers, at its sole discretion, also have the right to suspend any participant who appears or is suspected to be physically unfit to participate in the Event.
    3. All participants are urged to seek medical advice of their physical condition before participating in the Event. All participants are required to submit a “Health Conditions Form and Recommendations for Runners” declaring for the compliance of the associated health requirement before being allowed to collect the Runner's Pack and to participate in the Event. By submitting his/her registration to take part in the Event, and subsequently taking part in the Event, a participant:
      1. Warrants and confirms to the Organizers that he/she is physically fit to participate in and complete his/her race without any medical or other assistance; and
      2. Agrees to indemnify the Organizer against and waive any right to claim against the Organizers in relation to the following as a result of him/her not being physically fit to participate in and complete the race:
        1. Any injury or death suffered by the participant himself/herself or any other persons; and
        2. Any damage to or any loss of property.
      3. The Organizers shall not be liable to anyone in any form in relation to the following or when the following happens:
        1. Sickness, infectious disease (including COVID-19) and/or accident (including emergency treatment);
        2. Loss and/or damage to personal property;
        3. Arriving late due to poor public transport and/or poor road conditions.
  5. Runner's Pack, Goodie Bag & Redemption
    1. Products inside the Runner's pack and Goodie Bags are provided by 3rd party sponsors. The Organizers do not have any responsibility and liability on the usage, care, and service terms related to the products.
    2. Runner's pack redemption
      1. Runners must pick up their runner's packs at the designated place within the specified date and time period with their QR code on email:
        1. Date & Time:
          • 3 - 5 April 2024: 9:30am - 8:00pm;
          • 6 - 7 April 2024: 9:30am - 6:00pm;
        2. Venue: PLAN International Hong Kong, 21/F., 9 Chong Yip Street, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong (5-minute walk from Ngau Tau Kok Station Exit A)
      2. Child/children's runner's packs for Family Run shall be picked up by the respective Team Leader. Other Adult team members shall be picked up on their own.
      3. If the runner is not available to pick up the runner's pack at the designated period listed above, he/she can authorise another person to pick up the runner's pack at the designated place with the relevant documents, including: the runner's pack redemption email with the correct QR code, the authorization letter and a copy of HKID / passport.
      4. If runners fail to pick up their runner's pack during the designated period, it will be considered as a forfeiture of the runner's pack. The Organizers will not distribute any runner's pack on the day of the event.
      5. Goodie Bag Redemption
        1. Goodie bags shall be redeemable on the day of the Event.
  6. Route Alteration
    1. The Organizers reserve the right to change or alter any parts of the running route before and during the race without prior notice in the event of unexpected road conditions or emergency. A race may be temporarily suspended for emergency or any other incidents during the race. In the event of an emergency or any incident happening, participants must follow the instructions of race officials or any law enforcement officers on site.
  7. Instructions Given by the Organizers' Officials
    1. Instructions given by the Organizers and race officials must be followed with respect to all matters not provided herein. The Organizers reserve the right to reject applications of a participant who has refused to follow instructions of the race officials for all future Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathons or races organised by the Organizers.
  8. Results
    1. Official Times and Net Times will be provided to participants who have completed in the designated challenge races within the specified time limit with valid race number bibs.
    2. Any appeals to the results must be submitted to the staff on the podium side within 5 minutes after the results are announced. The Organizers will submit the appeal to the chief referee for adjudication whose decision shall be final. The Organizers reserve the right not to accept any disputes or appeals submitted thereafter.
    3. Except for the above-mentioned winners or runners who have a chance to win, the results of all runners (competition time and personal time) are subject to the announcement of the conference on the website of the PLAN, and no appeals thereafter.
  9. Event Cancellation
    1. Should the Event be cancelled due to weather or other circumstances beyond the control of the Organisers or in the case of a Force Majeure resulting in the Event being cancelled before the scheduled date of the Event, i.e. 13 Apr 2024, Saturday, no refund will be made. All revenues deducting the costs incurred for the event, will be donated to PLAN International Hong Kong to provide support for the project against child marriages in Bangladesh.
    2. In case of any cancellation of the event, the Organizers shall have no other responsibilities and/or liabilities in relation to cancellation of the Event.
    3. Force Majeure includes and is not limited to the Organizers being unable to perform its obligations or organise or hold the Event due to fire, flood, earthquake, or other severe natural disaster or act of God; or due to protest, riot, civil disobedience, uprising, march, revolt, assembly, demonstration, occupation, commotion, mass gathering, war, insurrection, sabotage, pandemic, epidemic, or terrorist attack or the likelihood of such event or act. A reduction of the approved quota by the HKSAR Government or an imposition of COVID-19 measures by the HKSAR Government which are more stringent than those already approved by the HKSAR Government shall be deemed to be a Force Majeure.
  10. Weather Conditions
    1. The Event will be cancelled if tropical cyclone warning signal no.3 or above, or a red or black rainstorm signal is hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory at 3:00 am or thereafter on the day of the Event (i.e. 14 Apr 2024)(“Event Date”). Please pay special attention to the weather forecast the night before the Event as it will indicate whether tropical cyclone warning signals, red or black rainstorm signals are likely to be hoisted in the forthcoming period. Please follow updates on radio or TV announcements regarding the status of the Event from 3:00 am onwards on the Event Day.
  11. Event Official Photos
    1. The participant hereby authorises the Organizers, their intermediary companies and venue sponsors to take photos of the participants during the competition and use any photos, videos or any other records for any purposes, including commercial advertisements, without payment or compensation.
    2. The copyright of any images, photos, articles, run records, location information, and event reports, as well as the right to use TV broadcasts, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet, belong to the event Organizers. The aforementioned copyright includes but is not limited to the name, age and address of the participants mentioned in the article reporting the Event.
  12. Others
    1. The Organizers have the sole and final right to decide and determine whether any of the above Rules has been breached, violated or performed. In case of discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions of these Official Rules, the Chinese version shall prevail.
    2. All participants shall follow the instructions from the Organizers. The Organizers reserve the right to be disqualified from participating in the Event and no registration fees will be refunded.
    3. Participants agree to indemnify the Sponsor, its employees, agents, and contractors against any claims, demands, actions, proceedings, costs (including but not limited to legal fees) and legal liability (including but not limited to statutory and civil tort liability), and to hold it harmless from all losses arising from or in relation to their:
      1. Connections to the website;
      2. Information provided to the site;
      3. Breach of any of the clauses listed in this page;
      4. Breach of any laws and regulations of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China; and/or
      5. Violations the rights of any persons and/or entities.
    4. This Agreement shall be governed by, interpreted and construed in accordance with the laws of Hong Kong. Any disputes or claims arising out of these Terms and Conditions shall be submitted and settled to the Court in Hong Kong for legal actions.
    5. The Organizers reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this Event. The Organizers reserve all rights to change the terms and conditions without prior notice.
    6. The decision of the Organizers South China Morning Post Publishers Ltd and PLAN International Hong Kong shall be final in any dispute.
  13. Declaration

    Upon successful registration, participants agree to the following Disclaimer and the Terms and Conditions of the Event:


    “I declare that I will abide by the age restrictions of the event and abide by the Organizer's Terms and Conditions and relevant guidelines. I declare that I will only participate in the Run if I am physically fit and will do so at my own risk. I accept that the Organizer shall not be liable for any loss, damage, action, claim, cost or expense arising out of participation in the Run. I understand that any entry fees and donations are non-refundable under any circumstances. Before I participate in the Run. I have read and agreed to the above Terms and Conditions.”
